Attendance Policy

The importance of regular attendance

Students at Future Kids Model Private Schools are expected to attend all classes throughout the academic year, as regular school attendance is directly linked to academic success and to the development of social communication skills. Regular attendance also has a cumulative effect in building positive long-term traits such as a sense of responsibility, determination, and respect for rules.

We are strict about punctuality

Daily Attendance Times

Kindergarten and Primary

  • 7:00 am: teachers are at the entrances to receive students.
  • 7:10 am: attendance and absence are recorded. Any student arriving after this time must collect a late slip.
  • After 7:10 am: the supervisor changes the late student's status from absent to late and informs the family.
  • 7:30 am: late students are not admitted until the student counsellor has contacted the family.

Secondary Stage

  • Any student arriving after 7:10 am is barred from entering the classroom and is recorded absent for that period unless there is an accepted excuse.
  • It is the student's responsibility to follow up on changing an absence to a lateness.
  • Students are allowed five (5) minutes to move between periods. After ten (10) minutes, entry may be refused and the student recorded absent.

Minimum Attendance (the 25% rule)

Students must attend at least 75% of the total periods for each subject. If a student is absent for 25% or more, they will be barred from the subject regardless of the reasons for absence. Parents are contacted periodically when absence reaches 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%.

Excused Absence

  • Illness or urgent medical conditions (with a medical report).
  • A death in the family.
  • Observance of a religious holiday.
  • Urgent family circumstances (with administration approval).
  • Representing the school or the country at official events.
  • Court or government appointments.

Unexcused Absence

All absences other than those listed are considered “unexcused absence”. An unexcused absence results in a grade of "F" for any exam or classwork the student did not complete. Missing particular periods is likewise unacceptable and is dealt with firmly.
